What is Favicon.ico?
When you browse to websites and you see a small image that is placed on your browser tab which makes it easier to recognize which tab is the one you want rather than having to read the text you are looking at a favicon.ico. If a browser finds that file on the webserver, it shows it. Here’s an example of my tab when I’m on the favicon.ico site:
They have a very easy to use web page. I took the easiest approach, used Snipping Tool to capture an image, uploaded the image, the site created a favicon.ico file, that I could in turn download. Put it on my web server, and like magic, now my tab looks like this:
Sure… If you just saw the image, you would have no way to know it was Mont St. Michel, but once you’ve seen the larger image, it’s actually not too bad to recognize.
I used favicon.ico files on my sites before but in the past it took me HOURS to create them and they never looked right. Favicon.cc is very cool. With favicon.cc it probably took me less than 2 minutes!
